Common Application Statistics May 6 Weve got some Common Application statistics for our readers. There is a cool infographic out on the Common Application that offers up some interesting data. For the 2013-2014 admissions cycle, 754,545 unique students used the Common Application. On average, a student submitted 4.4 applications to various colleges. Does that number surprise you by chance? Of all applicants, 91.5% answered the race question (its optional). 55% of applicants were female, while 45% were male. 90.9% hailed from the United States, while 9.1% came from outside of the United States with a grand total of 203 countries represented. There were 412,265 logins on December 31st alone. Thats quite a high number, but it shouldnt come as too big of a surprise since we live in a world where lots of folks do things at the very last minute. On this same day, 154,903 total applications were submitted by all applicants using the Common App. On December 31st, 5.2 forms were submitted per second. Pretty cool, right? Within the United States, New York and California were the most well-represented states of origin for the applicants with New York at 14.1% and California at 11.7%. New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Illinois round out the top five. In total (not just on December 31st), 3.3 million applications were submitted. 28.6% of applicants were first generation college students in that neither parent held a four-year college degree. Of applicants hailing from outside of the United States, many came from China (36.1% of students from outside the U.S.), India (6.0%), and Canada (4.5%).
